We didn't design our QUICKflight and FlightLine free fall devices to be a walk in the park; they are made to get your heart racing. In fact, we wanted people to pause at the edge before jumping, working to build up the confidence to leap. It's that moment before the jump that defines our free fall devices. No one is pushing a button to start this ride; it's all up to you to take that step into thin air. It might be scary, but that's ok. That's part of the fun!
If it's your first time on one of our free fall devices, how do you build confidence to take that leap? Or, if you're an operator of a facility, how do you help people to face their fears? We've put together three suggestions of how to build confidence and take the leap.
Watch and Learn
Before it's your turn, it can be helpful to watch others as they take flight with QUICKflight and FlightLine. You'll be able to see the process, what it looks like, and their reactions (from nervous to excited). Watching others jump can make it looks more manageable, but it can also build up your anticipation, so don't watch too long! Get in line yourself!
Set a Goal
Set a goal for yourself when approaching the adventure tower, ropes course, or jump platform. Maybe you've done this before and want to jump from the highest platform this time. Maybe you're facing your fear of heights and simply want to take that step off the platform. It doesn't matter if it's the lowest one. Or maybe you've experienced the extreme thrill of FlightLine before, and now your goal is to jump without hesitation.
Wherever your comfort level, set a goal that is appropriate for where you are now and is achievable. Don't compare your goal to others, and remember to take it one step (or in this case, one leap) at a time.
Test It Out
If you're at a complete adventure tower, you'll be lucky enough to have multiple Head Rush Technologies devices to enjoy. It will also give you the chance to build up to the bigger jumps and to work up to your goal. Start, for example, with a ride on the TRUBLUE Auto Belay. This gives you a chance to experience the magnetic braking technology behind all Head Rush devices without the free fall.
From there, give QUICKflight a try! QUICKflight can be mounted from 15 feet to 75 feet depending on the device and ripcord accessory. The ripcords extend the free fall sensation, so how big of a drop are you ready for? Finally, if you're still roaring and ready to go, saddle up for FlightLine. This is our biggest, baddest free fall ride and will give even extreme thrill seekers a rush. Step up, if you're ready.
